As the crisp winter air sweeps through Downtown LA, our highest-flying destinations is making strategic moves to keep our majestic skyline experiences alive.

Taking over the space formerly known as the Standard, ÜCA Terraza has successfully moved away from the “party-only” vibe into a sophisticated, year-round destination. Their Thursday Night Jazz series is the heart of their winter programming, offering a “Creative Jazz Fusion” that warms the soul better than any heater could. Because it sits at a lower elevation than the skyscrapers of Wilshire, it is naturally more protected from the wind, allowing guests to enjoy the open air without the shiver. It’s a soulful, artistic experience that reminds us why this building has always been a downtown anchor.

We also continue to see incredible energy at Inanna Bar at The Hoxton, Downtown LA where Mediterranean comfort meets one of Downtowns most iconic views. Meanwhile, Cara Cara at Hotel Per La remains a staple for Thursday night “Proper Sounds” DJ sets, where the lush landscaping acts as a natural barrier against the wind, allowing guests to enjoy the sunset in style.

Spire 73 recently announced a temporary closure for January and February, planning to welcome guests back in March. While we will miss that 73rd-floor vantage point, it is a smart business decision. Anyone who has braved the wind chill up there knows that even the most robust heat lamps can’t always compete with the elements, making it an unpleasant experience for both guests and the staff who often have to hand out blankets.

But the DTLA skyline is far from hibernating. This seasonal pause at Spire 73 offers the perfect opportunity to rediscover their indoor lounges and five-star restaurants.

Broken Shaker at Freehand Hotel is downtown city view masterpiece. At night, the vibe shifts to high-energy DJ sets and electronic music series like “Higher Grooves,” where the dancing keeps the blood pumping. Plus, Freehand’s cozy rooms allow the transition from the rooftop pool deck straight to a warm bed, making it one of the most inviting winter retreats in the city.

Just 12 stories up, The Rooftop at The Wayfarer Hotel strikes the perfect balance between skyline views and intimate warmth. The Wayfarer is famous for its intimate fire pits and comfortable lounge seating designed to block the wind. Their menu is built for winter comfort, featuring items like the Honey Ancho Chile Glazed Beef Short Rib and savory South Flower Street Tacos.

Nixo Patio Lounge at E-Central in the Social District offers a refined, chef-crafted experience that is ideal for those who want a view without the high-altitude wind chill. It’s perfect for pre-game or post-show warmth near the Crypto.com Arena. The lounge features a sprawling outdoor patio with ample heat lamps and a sophisticated “skyline happy hour” that draws a local professional crowd.

Lastly, Level 8 at the Moxy & AC Hotel promises an escape from the cold within its massive “Level 8” playground is currently hosting “Winter Hour” at the Golden Hour rooftop. This immersive pop-up transforms the poolside carousel bar into a winter wonderland, complete with icicle lights, festive decor, and most importantly, cozy fire pits and intimate igloos that allow you to enjoy the view while staying completely shielded from the breeze. For an internal heater, try their seasonal “ski shots” or a “Lava Colada” to bring a bit of tropical warmth to the night. If the rooftop gets too brisk, you can simply step inside to Mr. Wanderlust, their jazz lounge that feels like a warm, wood-paneled library, featuring live music and a world-class cocktail program. If the night air gets too brisk, their signature “strong” cocktails provide the perfect internal heater.

This winter season embracing our local favorites keeps our city glowing. Offering live entertainment, cozy hotel nights, seasonal cocktails and full blown meals – DTLA Hotels rooftops prove once again that in DTLA, the sky is always the limit.
