CicLAvia Spins the Block with Leimert Park Meets Expo Course Coming This June

Ever since its first ride in Downtown LA back in October 2010, Downtown LA and beyond has seen CicLAvia take over the streets over the course of the past sixteen years.

From the beachside breeze of Venice during the iconic To the Sea route, to the spokes of joy across the county—from Culver City and Hollywood to Boyle Heights and Watts—but we’ve never seen it come alive quite like it’s upcoming joy ride slated for Leimert Park.

On Sunday, June 28, 2026 Metro presents CicLAvia—Leimert Park meets Expo Park, one more car-free open street route to add to the Ciclavia roster.

This Leimert Park meets Expo Park event marks the sixty-sixth of an initiative designed to catalyze public spaces, encourage active transportation, and promote wellness.

For this celebration, 3.6 miles of city streets will transform into a day-long pop-up park connecting Leimert Park and Expo Park via Crenshaw Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The event welcomes people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the open streets in people-powered ways. Participants can show up anywhere along the route at any time to explore and enjoy the day by walking, jogging, biking, skating, or simply spectating.

The route features three distinct hubs that serve as meeting points and mandatory dismount walking zones. These include the Leimert Park Hub on Crenshaw Boulevard north of Vernon, the King Estates Hub on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard west of Western Avenue, and the Expo Park Hub on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard west of Figueroa Street.

Each hub provides family-friendly activities and programming, restrooms, free water refilling stations, free basic bike repair, bike parking, seating areas to meet up with friends and family, and first aid. There are also free pedicab rides accessible at the information booth of each hub.

CicLAvia Executive Director Romel Pascual notes that South Los Angeles is consistently a highlight of the schedule and stands out as one of the most transit-accessible routes, featuring five Metro stops located within a single block of the event.

“South LA is always one of the highlights ofCicLAvia’s schedule, and one of the most Metro-accessible with 5 Metro stops within one block of this route,” says CicLAviaExecutive Director Romel Pascual. “Along Martin Luther King, Jr. and Crenshaw, LA’s dynamic culture can be seen in the local businesses and restaurants, community parks, and public art that are on the route. As the LA region plays host to the 2026 World Cup, there’s no better way to show how LA is connected – the dynamic cultures and diverse communities – than on the streets at CicLAvia Sundays. We’ll be celebrating the 2026 World Cup, and the communities and local businesses that make our region special.”

The event will specifically celebrate the 2026 World Cup alongside the local businesses and communities that make the region special.

Inspired originally by the weekly ciclovía in Bogotá, CicLAvia has been temporarily closing streets to automobile traffic and opening them as public parks in Los Angeles for sixteen years.

To maintain safety, only people-powered vehicles are permitted on the route. Electric scooters, electric skateboards, hoverboards, electric unicycles, motorcycles, and other non-people-powered vehicles are strictly prohibited. However, Class 1 e-bike pedal-assist is allowed. Class 2 e-bikes are permitted only when the throttle is powered off, and Class 3 e-bikes are allowed provided the pedal-assist feature is turned off. Both manual and motorized wheelchairs are fully permitted.

Participants assume all known and unknown risks of participation in the event, and detailed information regarding participant rights can be found on the official CicLAvia safety webpage.

As a free nonprofit organization, CicLAvia remains committed to introducing Angelenos to the vibrant cultural and civic treasures found throughout Los Angeles. The organization highlights issues critical to all residents, ranging from air quality improvement and environmental health to physical and mental well-being and access to safe, open parks. Over its history, CicLAvia has captured the imagination of nearly two million people who have collectively traveled along more than 369 miles of streets. It builds a unifying social fabric that joyously connects culturally diverse neighborhoods and neighbors to each other.

It doesn’t matter if participants choose to walk, stroll, skate, jog, scooter, or bike, the event creates incredible shared moments and experiences on city streets, making it fun for both families and cyclists.
