Yachtley Crew Brings Nautical Nostalgia to Peacock Theater in Downtown LA

This November 29, Downtown Los Angeles is set to sail into smooth-rock paradise when Yächtley Crëw docks at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE for a one-night-only “Seas the Night” performance. The show begins at 7:30 p.m., delivering a full dose of sun-soaked yacht rock — that laid-back, breezy sound of ’70s and ’80s soft rock made for long drives and good-times cruising.

Setting Sail on the Sound of Yacht Rock

Yächtley Crëw — often cheekily dubbed “The Titans of Soft Rock” — formed in 2017 in Los Angeles. What makes them stand out isn’t just their tight harmonies, but also their captain hats, nautical uniforms, and a joyful theatricality that leans fully into the spirit of yacht rock.

The band is made up of seasoned musicians: Philly Ocean (lead vocals), Tommy Buoy (guitar), Baba Buoy (bass), Sailor Hawkins (drums), Stoney Shores (backing vocals), Pauly Shores (saxophone), and Matthew McDonald (keys). Frontman Philly Ocean has summed up their vibe simply: “All of our fans are called crewpies … they come dressed like sailors.”

In an interview, guitarist Tommy Buoy described yacht rock as “soft rock from the ’70s and ’80s … All the songs you would know, like Steely Dan, Toto, Kenny Loggins … it just kind of got a rebrand … and so that caught on with America.” He also credited movies like Guardians of the Galaxy for re-energizing a younger generation’s love for these smooth radio hits.

New Horizons: Seas the Night & Originals

While Yächtley Crëw built its reputation on expertly executed covers — think Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Christopher Cross — their upcoming album Seas the Night, due September 19, 2025, anchors something fresh: “Pain of Losing You,” written by Grammy-winning songwriter Diane Warren. “We heard through our manager Andy Gould that Diane was a fan of Yachtley Crew and is a fan of the yacht rock genre,” the band told DT Weekly.

When we heard the song ‘Pain Of Losing You,’ we knew that we had to record it. Honestly, it’s a dream come true to get to record a song written by someone as iconic as Diane Warren, and our producer Chris Lord-Alge knew exactly what to do to get it to sound like the Crew.”

The rest of the LP revisits beloved soft rock songs from the 1970s and 1980s, staying true to the nostalgic core of their brand. “Since we started Yachtley Crew back in 2017, we have always wanted to record a full-length album of our most beloved Yacht Rock songs,” Ocean stated. “I remember it was one of the first things we dreamt about as a band. Here we are, eight years later, and it’s finally happening! Seas The Night is, I think, our greatest accomplishment as a band.”

Why This Show Hits Home in L.A.

For a band that was born in Southern California and built its identity around laid-back surf-and-sail energy, returning to L.A. LIVE feels poetic. The Peacock Theater, with its glitzy, high-capacity stage, offers the perfect backdrop for a night of polished performers, sing-along choruses, and joyful showmanship. Pair that with pre-show vibes in the plaza — dinner, drinks, and people dressed like they just stepped off a yacht — and you’ve got a quintessentially Los Angeles evening.

What to Expect at the Nov. 29 Show

Fans can expect Yachtley Crew to turn the Peacock Theater into a floating fever dream of satin-soft nostalgia, the kind of night where every song feels like it drifted in on a warm breeze from 1978. Their shows have a curious way of bending time, pulling the audience into a world built from perfectly polished harmonies, slow-burning sax lines, and arrangements that shimmer like chrome on a freshly waxed yacht.

The band’s larger-than-life stage presence, complete with captain’s hats, aviator shades, and a level of commitment that borders on theatrical devotion, invites the crowd to lean fully into the fantasy. One moment you’re singing along to a Christopher Cross classic, the next you’re swaying to an Air Supply heart-mender or belting out Toto with strangers who suddenly feel like old friends. And because they’ve begun slipping original material like Seas the Night and Pain of Losing You into the set, there’s a sense of discovery woven into the nostalgia. It’s not just a concert; it’s a whole handcrafted mood, the kind of atmosphere where even skeptics find themselves raising an imaginary piña colada to the sky.
