LA Metro Announces Free Rides in DTLA for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve

Metro Bus Christmas 2025

To encourage safe travel amidst holiday celebrations and severe winter weather, LA Metro has announced that all rides on its system will be free of charge starting today, Christmas Eve. The “Fareless Rides” initiative applies to all Metro buses, trains, and even Metro Bike Share and Metro Micro services throughout the Downtown Los Angeles hub.

Free rides are available beginning at 4:00 AM on Wednesday, December 24, and will continue until 3:00 AM on Christmas morning. Metro officials hope the move will reduce the number of drivers on the road during the current flood watch and provide an eco-friendly way for residents to reach family gatherings or the L.A. County Holiday Celebration at the Music Center.

Travelers using Union Station should note that while rides are free, services are operating on a reduced holiday schedule. Additionally, Metrolink is offering a $10 Holiday Pass for unlimited travel on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day for those traveling beyond the Metro service area. Metro will repeat the free ride offer on New Year’s Eve to help Angelenos ring in 2026 safely.
