The legendary Art Walk News returns after a ten-year hiatus with the debut of the Art Walk News Launch Events, new monthly open-air art night markets held in conjunction with Art Night in DTLA that celebrate creativity with the release of each new issue.

Breaking free of its orthodox newsprint blueprint, the new version of the newspaper isn’t a newspaper at all, rather a high-quality, full-gloss 24-page magazine—the fourth publication created by the team behind Gallery Row Art Walk News, DT Weekly and Downtown Appetite the Minizine; a women-owned company originally established by Keri Freeman in 2009.

Art Walk Origins

Originally created to document the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk—the event that helped rejuvenate Downtown Los Angeles in the early 2010s—Art Walk News has expanded its coverage to include galleries, museums, public art, artists, cultural events, and creative businesses in support of art walks from Los Angeles to San Pedro.

Walk the Vote!

Beyond the printed magazine, the Art Walk News App features an interactive map, citywide event calendars, artists calls, local eateries and Walk the Vote!, an ongoing public voting program that allows visitors to explore local galleries and vote for their favorite works of art.

Winning artists are featured in future editions of Art Walk News, giving both artists and their participating galleries an opportunity to be recognized by a world of creatives.

Art Walk Mecca – Make the Pilgrimage!

Each month, Art Walk News Launch Event introduces a new immersive theme, transforming the release of every issue into a one-night celebration of art, music, food, and community while encouraging artists to collaborate in fresh new, imaginative ways.

On August 6, Art Walk Mecca – Make the Pilgrimage transports visitors to a High Desert Oasis with wild animals, jungle beats, and a variety of exotic eats.

Held in the publication’s original event location at 7th and Spring Streets, across from Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts, The Hive Gallery, and Rizo Gallery, guests can RSVP for the VIP experience and enter for a chance to win raffle prizes courtesy of the Grammy Museum and others.

A BLAST FROM THE PAST

Returning on August 6th, blacklight artist Debi Cable, joined by Bodies and Beats creator Nicolette Spear, will bring their signature glow in support in conjunction with their own highly acclaimed dance party Neon Menagerie featuring body painted audiences, house music and glowing performance artists from all over the world, headed to Casita Hollywood on Oct. 3.

Recent editions have featured museums including DataLand and LACMA’s new David Geffen Galleries, influential figures such as Tom Gilmore, whose vision helped shape Downtown Los Angeles’ renaissance, musical artists like TwoLips and Carter Faith, and major cultural events including the LA Jazz Festival.

As one of Downtown Los Angeles’ longest-running art, news and entertainment publishers, the monthly launch event extends the mission beyond the printed page by creating a place where artists and the public can connect through art, conversation, collaboration, and discovery.
